“Would it scare you if…?”

“…I told you I’ve never loved anyone the way I love you?”

Words uttered by M yesterday afternoon.

*gulp*

wow, really? Me? You’ve never loved anyone the way you love me…not even your ex-wife? <–my thoughts

Those words swirled around in the back of my mind but what also swirled around was how very much I love him back and that I finally feel like I am allowing myself to love him as deeply as he loves me.

My response (after kissing him, of course)?

“I love you…and I’m not sure you’ve ever been loved for all that you are before, or for the right reasons. I do.”

This weekend has been utterly amazing, starting with hearing those words. We opted to stay in and concoct a fancy meal with some fancy wine and just be…rather than fight the masses going out for Valentine’s Day dinners with overpriced meals and fancy extras, when we could so much better at home.

And that’s just what we did. Here’s our menu:

Olives and cheese (starter)

Salad (course one)

Carrot soup (course two)

Grilled Salmon with an ‘M original’ sauce he created on the fly (SO good), roasted asparagus, jasmine rice (course three)

Red Velvet Cupcakes with Buttercream frosting (two confessions: I made these from a box and made them low fat)

Wine: Hop Kiln Russian River Red (so, so, so good!)

It was a leisurely meal, starting around 6 (cooking started then), ending around 9:30 and then complete with a movie on the couch, and an unbelievably evening (with some other details I’d rather leave out…but I’ll leave it at…amazing).

But the best part of the entire night was just that…spending the time together, uninterrupted. We had some very deep conversations (more on that later), he gave me a gorgeous earring and necklace set (spoiled, I tell you…he’s too much!). And I finally feel myself completely letting myself go into this relationship and it feels like we’re hitting a new stage in our relationship. The love is palpable. Our future is too. And I couldn’t be happier.

Swoon.

  1. I love this. I can feel that love you two share the minute we’re together, I sense it. And it’s awesome. You SO deserve to be loved this way, and M totally does too. Awesome.

  2. Oh wow I love your Valentine’s dinner and what a neat idea to stay in. So romantic, beautiful food and wonderful company and you guys have a very special connection and relationship.

On another note, dreaming of food, any chance M can share his secret sauce for salmon? Love eating salmon.

    1. Thanks Susan. We really do. I realize that more each day. For the sauce, I think he just sauteed some onions in olive oil. added stir fry sauce/soy sauce, chili powder, onion and garlic powder and sauteed it for awhile until it was thick. Was SO GOOD!

  3. Wow that is some powerful stuff. I have been sick so we watched movies and ate Lucky Charms to avoid the crowds. I was quite happy to do just that also:)

  4. Aww, how sweet! Good to hear you had a great dinner in this weekend instead of giving in to the Valentine’s Day machine.

  5. Hoorah for settling into the relationship and letting yourself expand into it. NOT an easy step but wow, what a new depth it brings, right? My man and I shared very similar sentiments in the last week and are reaching a new level as well. These are the times to savor every minute. Happy Valentine’s Day to you!

    1. It isn’t an easy step…one I didn’t realize would be so hard! I am savoring it all though, it is feeling great. Happy Valentine’s to you and your man too!

  6. I’m so happy for you! It sounds like a glorious way to spend Valentine’s Day. And to hear such significant words of love from him…I think you two are moving forward together in a beautiful way. I’m enjoying watching it all unfold!

We did something similar this weekend. (And BTW, that menu sounds heavenly. S is actually really picky about food, whereas I’ll eat ANYTHING.)

    1. Thank you so much! We have so much to look forward to together and that makes me so happy. I am really glad you and S had a good weekend too! Break him of that pickiness πŸ˜‰

  7. Cakes and cupcakes from the box are the best kind! If they taste that good and they’re that easy, why bother making it from scratch?!

But seriously, I’m so glad you had such an amazing weekend! And I look forward to my invite next year. I want a dinner like that! πŸ˜‰
